Big Footer

As some of you may notice i have recently moved a lot of my content from the sidebar to the footer. I have done this because i think it frees up a lot more space on the sidebar for advertising which will then be higher up the page.

I would be keen to know your opinions on this style of footer and also if any of you have it on your sites?

Most of the sections that i have moved to the footer are not really important, if you feel they are or have an opinion then feel free to let me know as i am just trialling this at the moment.

Chris's Gravatar Personally I don't like it. When I read a blog I want blog relevant content at hand, not ads.

While I understand that some projects really cost a lot of money and need some kind of funding, I still don't like it. (And I don't think this kind of funding is necessary for a personal blog, just my 2 cents. ;-))

This layout indeed brings the ads more to the attention of the visitor, but, I think the relevant blog features are now so far away from the content that this really has a negative impact on usability.

Besides, many people use ad blockers, so I doubt you really will have a lot of benefit from it. Again, just my 2 cents.

Jonny's Gravatar the reason i did this was not just to put ads up the page but i had been looking at the site stats and the category links were not being used, as most people were landing on relevant pages. so i thought i would move them down the page slightly. this technique has been very successful on some of the most popular blogs.
